Elmer

Elmer

Elmer is open-source software that utilizes the finite element method (FEM) to solve partial differential equations. It is particularly well-suited for simulating multi-physical phenomena.

A special application in geoscience, Elmer/Ice, is built on top of Elmer.

Elmer offers a wide range of methods and techniques for the computational modelling of physical phenomena. It includes simulations of fluid dynamics, structural mechanics, electromagnetics, heat transfers and acoustics, and so on.

Elmer is easily compiled on most Unix systems. It is also available for Windows and some Linux distributions as precompiled binaries. Elmer has a modern programmable user interface.

Previous experience with FEM packages can be useful when using Elmer.
