Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe - 6th Implementation Phase Project

PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe) is a European high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure. PRACE has 26 members, representing European Union Member States and Associated Countries. PRACE hosts the leading-edge HPC systems in Europe (Tier-0 systems). CSC represents Finland in the PRACE projects and provides a seamless route to Tier-0 resources for Finnish researchers.

PRACE has granted almost 1,1 billion computing hours for several Finnish research projects (situation 04/2020). Without PRACE resources, this research would have taken a very long time to complete, or would not have been completed at all.

CSC hosts one of the PRACE Advanced Training Centers, which carries out training and education activities that enable the European research community to utilise the computational infrastructure available through PRACE.

PRACE receives funding from the EU's Horizon 2020 programme and additionally the PRACE partner countries provide significant funding for the project.

"The biggest projects competing with leading research groups require enormous computing resources. In these cases, CSC's computing resources aren't powerful enough and computing resources must be solicited from organizations such as PRACE", says Professor Ilpo Vattulainen, Tampere University of Technology.
