CSC’s statement on the draft government report on ethical information policy in the age of artificial intelligence

CSC considers discussion about ethics of artificial intelligence very important and therefore welcomes the government report as a valuable addition to the discussion. CSC appreciates the inclusiveness in the preparation of the report. However, taking into account so many different views has led to some disunity in the report.

The report includes good objectives, such as increasing commercial usage of AI and data protection of citizens. However, possible contradictions between different objectives have not been discussed.

Finland has to be an active player in leveraging AI in both ethical and technologically advanced way. This objective requires guaranteeing national resources for high-performance computing, guaranteeing free movement of data and increasing life-long learning and competence building.
