PRACE Call 24 for Proposals for Project Access open

PRACE Call 24 for Proposals for Project Access open

European researchers in academia and industry can apply for high-performance computing resources from Europe's fastest supercomputers in the 24th PRACE (the Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe) Call for Proposals for Project Access.

There are seven tier-0 supercomputers from five different countries available in this call. These large and capable supercomputers provide both GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) and CPU (Central Processing Unit) based resources that support a range of use cases. In this call you can apply for very large projects, that provides major scientific impact. It enables you to access very large CPU resources, and in particular very large GPU resources that exceed the ones in Finnish Puhti and Mahti systems by a significant margin

Proposals can be based on a 12-months schedule (Single-year Projects), or, on a 24- or 36-months schedule (Multi-year Projects). The allocation of awarded resources is made 1 year at a time with provisional allocations awarded for the 2nd and 3rd year.

All proposals consist of 2 parts: An online form and the ‘Project scope and plan’. Please note that if you wish to continue work on a project that has finished or is ongoing, a new proposal (i.e. a continuation proposal) needs to be submitted via the platform in addition to a final/progress report.

Please note that the Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe (PRACE) aisbl is in a transition phase and cannot guarantee that requested HPC systems in the 24th Call for Project Access will be available for multi-year access (allocations for the 2nd and/or 3rd year).

Principal Investigators from industry have the possibility to apply for Single-year access to a special Industry Track which prioritises 10% of the total resources available Industrial users can apply if they have their head offices or substantial R&D activity in Europe.

In addition, the call reserves 0.5% of the total resources available for Centres of Excellence (CoE) as selected by the European Commission under the E-INFRA-5-2015 call for proposals.

CSC will be pleased to help you in preparing applications, especially regarding the technical questions. If you consider applying for the PRACE computing resources, you may contact CSC's Development Manager Sebastian von Alfthan (sebastian.von.alfthan(a)csc.fi, tel. 040 588 8688).

The proposals should be submitted through the new portal for submission.

The call #24 closes on Tuesday 2nd of November 2021 at 11:00 Finnish time (10:00 CET).

Other ongoing PRACE Calls for researchers

PRACE Call for Preparatory Access

PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe), the European research infrastructure on High Performance Computing (HPC), makes it possible for researchers from public and private institutions from across Europe and the world to apply for resources on high-end Tier-0 HPC systems via a centralized peer review process.

The objective of PRACE Preparatory Access is to allow PRACE users to optimize, scale and test codes on PRACE Tier-0 systems before applying to PRACE calls for Project Access. Production runs are not allowed as part of PRACE Preparatory Access.

Currently, PRACE offers the following schemes for Preparatory Access: read more about the access types A, B, C and D here.

The Call for Proposals for PRACE Preparatory Access Type A and Type B schemes is a continuously open call, with a maximum time-to-resources-access (start-date) of two weeks after the date of submission.

The upcoming cut-off date for Preparatory Access Type C and D proposals is 1 December 2021 – 11:00 AM CET

PRACE-ICEI Call
