Summer School brings together learners interested in high-performance computing
CSC Summer School in High-Performance Computing was organized for the 13th time in Nuuksio in summer 2023. The number of participants broke all records. The course attracted more than 30 students from all corners of Europe with different educational backgrounds and starting points.

Researchers discovered information from under the Sun’s surface about the emergence of solar storms using the LUMI supercomputer
Professor Maarit Korpi-Lagg from Aalto University leads a nine-person multidisciplinary research group. The group numerically verified the existence of a fluctuating dynamo in sun-like conditions during a LUMI pilot project.

Real-time bird monitoring for the benefit of science
Bird populations are known to be showing rapid responses to environmental change. For example, due to climate change, migratory events have been shifting to an earlier time in conjunction with warmer spring temperatures. This has consequences to bird population dynamics and functioning, which are being examined with a new mobile application Muuttolintujen kevät (Spring of Migratory Birds) that engages citizens to participate in collecting data.

Oppimisanalytiikan viitekehys auttaa hyödyntämään dataa oppimisen tukena
Oppimisessa ja koulutuksessa käytetään useita sähköisiä alustoja. Näitä ovat esimerkiksi digitaaliset oppimateriaalit, oppimisalustat, simulaatiot ja muut sähköiset työkalut. Kun opiskelijat käyttävät näitä alustoja, he jättävät toiminnastaan verkossa jälkiä. Oppimisanalytiikka tarkoittaa digitaalisten jälkien keräämistä, analysointia ja raportointia.

Case Trafotek, SEMTEC project: CSC involved in developing modelling tools for industrial needs
Together with CSC, VTT, three universities and six companies from the electromechanical industry, Trafotek Oy participated in the SEMTEC project, whose mandate was to develop simulation tools for electromechanical problems. The project was carried out in close cooperation with research institutes and companies.

Case Disior: code optimization support from CSC
Disior Ltd. is a Finnish start-up software company which develops computational software for treating bone fractures. Disior was one of the companies that was granted resources in the European high-performance computing infrastructure PRACE (the Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe) in its call for applications under the SHAPE program (SME HPC Adoption Programme for Europe) in autumn 2017.
