CSC services also accessible to research institutes

CSC computing services and data storage services are now accessible to state research institutes. The accessibility of CSC services applies to academic research conducted by research institutes, where research results are publish in accordance with good scientific practices. CSC offers services to research institutes under the same general terms of use as for researchers at higher education institutions. CSC's Sisu supercomputer, Taito supercluster and cPouta and ePouta cloud services are all available for use. Research institutes also have access to training provided by CSC.

The accessibility of CSC services does not include commercial research and innovation activities commissioned by research institutes, which can apply for the use of CSC resources by signing a commercial customer agreement for this purpose. Additional information on commercial customer agreements  and pricing.

Fairdata services, which promote the management and accessibility of research data, will also be made available to research institutes later this year. Fairdata services contribute to ensuring that data is FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Re-usable). Fairdata services include the IDA research data storage service, Etsin research data finder, QVAIN metadata tool and the digital preservation solution for research data (PAS). These services were developed in the Open Science and Research project as part of the Research-PAS.

Applying for computing resources

Computing resources are already available for application. Researchers from organizations belonging to the Haka identity federation may register as a CSC customer using their Haka login. Researchers from organizations not belonging to Haka may register as a CSC customer by contacting CSC Customer Service. Registering as a customer gives researchers access to the Taito supercluster and a limited amount of computing time. Senior-level researchers registered as customers may create computing projects, allow other registered users access to these projects and apply for additional resources. All new projects are automatically given 10,000 billing units and larger applications are processed by the CSC Resource Allocation Group.

In cases involving scientific software provided by CSC, the terms of license may limit the use of software where the needs of the research institute are concerned.
CSC Customer Training services

CSC provides comprehensive and quality training in scientific computing, information networks and information management. CSC supports the work of higher education institutions, research institutes and the government. CSC provides customer training to research institutes under the same terms as used for higher education institutions.
