SD Apply

Sensitive Data Apply

Sensitive Data (SD) Apply is a CSC service for data controllers to manage data access permissions on their datasets stored as part of the Federated European Genome-phenome Archive (FEGA) or SD Submit. SD Apply makes the data access application process fully electronic. During this process researchers must provide all the necessary information required by the data controllers to make their authorization decision. All access decisions are recorded as part of the service and the logs can be used to build reports or as part of audit tracks. The data access authorization complies with the international standards, such as the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health (GA4GH) Passport and DUO. Authorization decisions will be enforced within the CSC national research data management and computation services including SD Desktop.

Services for data controllers

SD Apply provides the members of a Data Access Committee (DAC), nominated by a data controller, with electronic tools for managing data access authorizations on the datasets. These tools support workflows for

  • Multi-factor authentication (MFA) – named DAC members will use their HAKA or Virtu credentials as well as a one-time password
  • Approving access decisions based on applications
  • Logging of all access decisions for six years
  • Support for audit trail and annual reports

We will provide the necessary documentation and training for data controllers to deploy SD Apply as part of their daily work.

Services for end-users

SD Apply includes a catalog of data controller's datasets that are made visible for end-users (researchers, teachers, students) to discover and apply access. Once access has been granted, authorized datasets are made available in SD Desktop.
