The importance of research data is continuously growing, and its management has become a key part of high-quality and impactful research. CSC’s Research Data Management Competence Center (RDM Competence Center) provides training in research data management, up-to-date information on developments in the field, and support through a professional network. Research data management encompasses all the actions and practices used to handle data generated and used throughout the research process lifecycle. Well-managed data improves the quality, transparency, and reproducibility of research. Planning for research data management is increasingly required by funders and publishers.
Do you need training on a specific topic related to research data management? CSC’s data management services support the storage, description, and discoverability of research data. Are you unsure how to use data management services and would like training? Would you like to organize a training session or workshop in collaboration with others?
The Competence Center serves as a collaboration platform where data support staff, experts, and researchers from research organizations can learn, share expertise, and develop practices together.
Developing Expertise Through Networks
CSC’s Data Support Network operates as part of the Competence Center and connects experts from research organizations, enabling peer support and collaborative development. Everyone interested in news and training opportunities related to data management is warmly welcome to join the network! If you’re not yet a member, you can join here.
The newly launched Nordic Data Stewardship Network (NDSN) also offers opportunities for Nordic collaboration. NDSN is a Nordic initiative aimed at addressing shared challenges, developing best practices, and organizing joint activities related to data management. More information is available here.
Trainings
Research data management trainings organized by CSC can be found in CSC’s training calendar. The goal is to support the implementation of open science practices and the FAIR principles in research.
CSC also offers self-paced online courses, such as courses on research data management in Finnish and English, designed for students, researchers, and data support.
You are always welcome to suggest topics for future trainings or propose collaboration related to training activities.

Well-managed research data enhances the reliability and impact of research. It also enables data reuse, which improves the efficiency of research resources and supports the emergence of new innovations. CSC’s Research Data Management Competence Center supports the achievement of these goals.
