Computing infrastructure and instructional materials for our customers

Services for education

CSC services for education include access to high-performance computing, virtualization, container runtime and web application platforms for teachers to teach courses, students to take courses and researchers to do tasks such as prototyping. In addition to the computing and data management infrastructure, courses and self-learning materials are also available.

While using CSC services for education is in most cases free-of-charge, there are certain limitations. See the free-of-charge use policy for more details.

For teachers

Teachers can use some CSC services to host their course exercises. You can set up a course project in My CSC for your students using CSC’s services. Each participant will create their own personal CSC user account and you can add them to your course project. See instructions in Docs CSC.

For students

Students can create a student project in My CSC to help with their studies, whether it is for courses or a thesis. See instructions in Docs CSC.

Students can also attend the various courses offered by CSC and learn about the fundamentals of utilizing modern computing environments. These courses help students understand trends in computing technologies and how they are being utilized in industry and academia.

For researchers

Researchers have traditionally been using CSC computing resources for running their experiments and simulations. In addition to that, researchers can also use CSC’s services and resources to host their short courses and practical workshops. Such practices increase the researchers’ visibility and boost their networks.

For other staff

Department heads and management staff can use some of the template resources provided, or their own recipes, to deploy custom monitoring and presentation platforms. These, for example, include WordPress deployments for department and project landing pages, and templates for deploying user engagement monitoring platforms.

Platforms available for education

Besides consuming the self-study and guided courses provided by CSC, institutions can host their own courses using CSC platforms such as Noppe (formerly Notebooks) and Puhti/Mahti web interfaces. Additionally, they can bring their own recipes for their customized educational platforms and deploy them on core infrastructures such as cPouta or Rahti that provide cloud compute and storage resources.
