Public Detailed service description

Noppe is a cloud platform instantly ready for use via the service’s website. It is especially well-suited for teaching and research. Noppe provides easy-to-use applications for programming and working with data.

Different environments based on Jupyter Notebook, RStudio Server and Apache Spark are available via Noppe. You can access the service via your web browser.

Teachers can create a teaching environment or produce their own teaching materials.

System is used by the following key users.

  • end-users, who are expected to be students and researchers of little knowledge of Unix/Linux systems
  • group-managers, who are teaching assistants and researchers who manages courses/group. They customize the blueprint. They are appointed by group owners
  • group-owners, who are professors and researchers who would like to host a course. They create and customize the blueprint and make it available to end-users
  • admins who maintain user associations and create blueprint templates for group-owners.

User content including personal data in the Service

User must evaluate whether this Service is suitable for their purpose. Please pay attention to special categories of personal data.

When CSC processes personal data in CSC’s services on behalf of the controller, we always require a personal data processing agreement.  The user creates the description of processing activities in MyCSC customer portal. Data Processing Agreement.

The Service do not assert ownership or any intellectual property rights to users or customers organisations’ content in the services.

Client’s responsibilities

User must follow all the Terms of Use that applies using the Service 

Client is also responsible for:

  • Responsible for their data and computing – especially before the existing teaching environment expires
  • Backing up their data and modified computing environments
  • Access management to the Noppe workspaces (excluding Noppe service authentication)
  • Capacity / Course requests before the Noppe service’s resources are needed (e.g. for a course)

Service producer’s responsibilities

The service producer ensures that the service is available to customers as described in the service description. 

The service producer is responsible for producing and developing the Service.
