Social sciences and humanities
CSC services and solutions of relevance to researchers across social sciences and humanities include:
- Computing resources for your computational research
- Research data management services for storing large amounts of research data, or for sharing data or results long-term
- Cloud services for hosting the results of your research as e.g. a web page or application
- Language resources for either accessing existing language resources or processing your language data, either text or audio
- Training and expert support in research data management
Most of our services are free of charge for academic researchers in Finland, but require a user account at CSC.
If you have any questions about CSC’s services for social sciences and humanities, don’t hesitate to contact CSC Service Desk.
Resources
Our user guides and tutorials in Docs CSC is generally your first stop for information about how to use any CSC service. For example:
We also encourage you to contact our Service Desk with any issues. Your questions will be forwarded to the appropriate expert. This is also helpful in developing our documentation and services, as we understand the type of problems users encounter.
We also host casual user support sessions on Zoom, where users of all levels and our experts can ask questions and share solutions.
The Language Bank of Finland
The Language Bank of Finland serves researchers using language resources across digital humanities and social sciences. It offers a wide variety of text and speech corpora and tools for studying them. Some corpora are completely public, some are available for anyone with an academic affiliation, and some are available only by application. With a total of approximately 49 billion words, it currently hosts corpora in Finnish, Swedish, English, German, French, Spanish, Russian, Swahili, a variety of Uralic languages and even Ancient Near East languages written in cuneiform. Some are parallel corpora, meaning that they contain the same text in more than one language.
